I have learned that Teaching Empathy in the Digital Learning Environment is crucial in fostering respectful online interaction culture. Understanding Human Social connections in the Digital Age is essential for students to have a healthy balance in their use of technology.   

My research showed that virtual reality had been used successfully in exposure therapy, a psychotherapy approach that systematically introduces triggers to help overcome phobias and trauma. It is used to teach empathy by presenting scenarios that are often emotionally fraught, stressful, or challenging—and a little dramatic. My post also addressed additional steps to teach empathy in our digital learning community using virtual reality. However, we need to be aware that our confidence in a controlled scenario might not carry over to a real-life situation.  

When we are aware of how our social connection is changing around technology, we also need to be mindful of the relationship between us and our digital devices to foster a healthy balance in the use of technology. Human Social Connection in the Digital Age pointed out that educators should focus on teaching social skills early, creating shared social norms, and engaging students in cooperative learning to prepare students for skills in social connection. Respectful online interactions should be built upon the foundation of positive social relationships in the digital world.
