4.7.a Inspire and encourage educators and students to use technology for civic engagement and to address challenges to improve their communities.
Global education allows students to appreciate diverse perspectives, understand their connections to the broader world, effectively communicate and collaborate across cultures and countries, and use disciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge to investigate and take action on issues that matter to them and the community, and the wider world.
My learning from Technology in Global Education gave an example of teachers using technologies to bring projects and opportunities for students to engage and participate in global learning. During one of the community projects in this program, my students collaborated with students and teachers in China on a project to learn about global issues related to the 17 sustainable development goals in the U.S and China. They also learned how our current political relationship and issues impact the goals and solutions. Students were able to utilize online meeting tools like Zoom, recording tools like the FlipGrid to minimize the time zone challenges, and online documents shared editing features to enhance the collaboration and communication with students in China.
My learning from this project confirmed that the infusion of global education through the appropriate and effective use of various technologies is essential for preparing students to participate and engage as global citizens.
